STEAM EDUCATION IN TRAINING FUTURE SPECIALISTS FOR CREATIVE INDUSTRIES: THE EU EXPERIENCE
Full text (pdf)
Language: Ukrainian
Abstract. The aim of this article is to explore the European experience of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) education in the training of future specialists for the creative industries. In the context of Ukraine’s European integration, an urgent task is the adaptation of the education system to European standards that promote the development of creative and analytical thinking. The authors analysed the relationship between the implementation of STEAM education and the growth of the creative sector in the European Union. The study examines current trends in STEAM education and their impact on the development of competencies such as interdisciplinarity, critical thinking and innovation, which are crucial for specialists in fields such as design, media, digital technologies and gaming platforms. The authors also highlight the importance of EU programme initiatives, such as Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and Creative Europe, which support the development of STEAM education and strengthen cooperation between educational institutions and businesses. The article examines key EU indicators, including investment in STEAM education, the percentage of students and graduates in STEM disciplines, the share of employment in creative industries, the share of creative industries in GDP, and the results of the PISA-2022 assessment of creative thinking. To successfully implement STEAM education in Ukraine, it is essential to integrate this educational approach into the development of creative industries. Key measures in this direction include: the development of a national strategy that emphasises the link between STEAM education and the growth of creative industries; investment support for the training of teachers and lecturers in the integration of technical and creative disciplines; the organisation of extracurricular STEAM activities with a focus on creativity; Ukraine’s participation in EU programmes such as Horizon Europe, Erasmus+ and Creative Europe; and the establishment of STEAM centres in Ukraine with a focus on creative industries. These measures will contribute to Ukraine’s post-war recovery and, in the longer term, drive innovative development, attract international investment, create new jobs and ensure economic growth within the framework of European reforms.
