Publication Ethics

The journal “Educational Analytics of Ukraine” adheres to international standards of publication ethics and implements best practices in scholarly publishing. In particular, the editorial policy is aligned with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, the Publishing Ethics Resource Kit for Editors, the EASE Guidelines, and the ICMJE.

The journal also takes into account the principles and approaches of international initiatives in publication ethics, responsible research, and research evaluation, in particular WAME and DORA, which promote adherence to the principles of integrity, transparency, accountability, objectivity in peer review, and non-discrimination in editorial practices.

In the review of submitted manuscripts, the editorial team is guided by the requirements and criteria of leading international indexing databases, including Scopus and Web of Science, as well as by the principles of open access and transparency defined by DOAJ.

The editorial office ensures adherence to the principles of impartiality, confidentiality, and independence in the editorial process. Decisions on publication are made solely on the basis of the scientific value, relevance, and novelty of the research and are not influenced by any discriminatory or other non-academic factors. The journal guarantees editorial independence and prevents any third-party influence on the peer review and decision-making processes.

It also ensures the absence of conflicts of interest among authors, reviewers, and editorial board members and prevents any unethical publishing practices (including plagiarism, self-plagiarism, fabrication, or falsification of research results). All participants in the publication process are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

All submitted manuscripts are checked using specialised software for detecting text similarity (such as Turnitin). Manuscripts with a high level of similarity or evidence of plagiarism are rejected without peer review.

Authors’ Duties

Authors bear full responsibility for the reliability of research results, the correctness of the sources used, and compliance with ethical standards. Submission of a manuscript implies that:

  • the material is original and has not been previously published;
  • the manuscript is not under consideration by other journals (simultaneous submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals is not permitted);
  • all co-authors have made a substantial contribution to the research;
  • authorship reflects the actual scientific contribution (unjustified inclusion or exclusion of authors constitutes an ethical violation);
  • all sources used are properly cited.

Authors are required to disclose any potential conflicts of interest, as well as sources of research funding (if applicable).

Authors must accurately present research results, avoid data manipulation, and ensure the possibility of verification of data where necessary.

Authors must avoid unjustified or formal citation and refer only to relevant sources.

All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and bear collective responsibility for its content.

Where applicable, authors must confirm that informed consent has been obtained and that the study has received appropriate ethical approval.

Reviewers’ Duties

Reviewers are required to adhere to the principles of confidentiality, objectivity, and impartiality. If a conflict of interest arises, the reviewer must inform the editorial office and decline the review.

Manuscript materials are confidential and may not be used by reviewers in their own research or shared with third parties prior to publication.

Reviewers must provide timely, well-reasoned, and well-founded evaluations that contribute to improving the quality of the manuscript.

They must inform the editorial office of any detected cases of similarity, duplication, or possible plagiarism.

Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts independently of their own scientific preferences and respect the diversity of scholarly approaches.

Editorial Board’s Responsibilities

The editorial board participates in the peer review process and ensures a fair, transparent, and timely review procedure.

All decisions regarding publication are made solely on the basis of scientific criteria.

The editorial board promotes adherence to the principles of open science, in particular the transparency of research and the accessibility of scientific results (within the framework of the journal’s policy).

The editorial board may, where necessary, be involved in the consideration of complaints, appeals, and requests from authors, reviewers, or other interested parties regarding possible violations of publication ethics. All such cases are considered impartially, confidentially, and in accordance with international guidelines.

The final decision on all ethical and editorial matters rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher supports the editorial independence of the journal and ensures that no commercial, financial, or institutional factors influence editorial decisions.

Ethical Requirements for Research

The journal adheres to ethical principles for conducting scientific research involving humans, animals, their biological materials, as well as personal or confidential data.

If a study falls under the scope of the legislation of Ukraine and/or international ethical standards, authors are required to obtain approval (permission) from an authorised ethics committee or another competent body.

Authors are responsible for compliance with ethical standards, in particular with regard to obtaining informed consent from research participants, ensuring the confidentiality of personal data, and the humane treatment of animals.

The editorial office has the right to request from authors confirmation of obtaining the relevant ethical approval or appropriate justification for its absence.

Violations of Publication Ethics

If violations of publication ethics are identified, the editorial office acts in accordance with international standards, in particular the recommendations of COPE, and may apply appropriate measures, including:
• rejection of the manuscript;
• a request for correction of the material;
• publication of corrections;
• retraction of the article;
• notification of relevant institutions in cases of serious violations.

Corrections and Retractions of Articles

If errors or unreliable data are identified after publication, the editorial office initiates procedures for issuing corrections (erratum or corrigendum) or retracting the article, depending on the nature and significance of the identified violations.

Retraction of a published article is carried out in cases of detection of serious violations of scientific or publication ethics, including:

  • plagiarism or self-plagiarism;
  • fabrication or falsification of research results;
  • duplicate publication;
  • significant errors affecting the reliability of results;
  • copyright violations;
  • undisclosed conflict of interest.

The decision to retract an article is made by the Editor-in-Chief based on the results of the review of relevant materials, including communications from authors, reviewers, or third parties.

The retraction procedure includes:

  • informing the author(s) and obtaining explanations;
  • consideration of the case by the editorial board, involving independent experts if necessary;
  • making a final decision.

When an article is retracted:

  • a separate retraction notice is published, indicating the reasons;
  • the article is not removed from the journal’s website, but its electronic version is marked as “Retracted”;
  • the corresponding label “Retracted” is placed on each page of the article;
  • the article metadata indicates its retracted status;
  • relevant information is transmitted to scientometric and bibliographic databases.

If minor errors that do not affect the main results of the research are identified, the journal may publish corrections (erratum or corrigendum) without retracting the article.

Retraction is carried out to ensure scientific integrity and the reliability of scientific knowledge and is not intended to punish the author(s).

Complaints Handling

Complaints regarding possible violations of academic integrity or publication ethics may be submitted by authors, reviewers, readers, or other interested parties. A complaint must be submitted to the editorial office in written form (by email) and should include:

  • the name of the applicant (where possible);
  • a clear description of the alleged violation;
  • a reference to the relevant article or material;
  • evidence or justification for the claim.

Upon receipt, the complaint is registered by the editorial office and undergoes a preliminary assessment to determine its validity. At this stage, the availability of evidence is verified, and the nature of the possible violation is determined, including plagiarism, fabrication or falsification of data, duplicate publication, conflict of interest, etc.

If the complaint is considered justified, the editorial office initiates an investigation procedure. As part of the investigation, the author(s) are notified and requested to provide explanations. Independent experts or members of the editorial board may be involved. Manuscripts, reviews, and other related documents are also analysed. The investigation is conducted in accordance with the principles of confidentiality and impartiality.

Based on the results, the editorial office may take one of the following decisions:

  • reject the complaint as unfounded;
  • require corrections or clarifications from the authors;
  • publish corrections or clarifications;
  • retract the article;
  • notify the author’s affiliated institution.

In the case of retraction, a retraction notice stating the reasons is published on the journal’s website and in the next issue of the journal.

The editorial office informs the complainant and the author(s) about the outcome of the complaint.

Authors or complainants have the right to submit an appeal after receiving the decision.

The appeal is considered by the Editor-in-Chief and, if necessary, by members of the editorial board or independent experts.

Complaints are handled in accordance with the principles of objectivity, impartiality, and confidentiality, as well as in line with academic integrity standards and international publication ethics guidelines, in particular the recommendations of COPE.
